Alternative City Budget
Defunding the police and reinvesting in communities is a concrete, practical project. Inspired by movements across North America, we spoke with over 100 Montreal groups to hear how they’d like to reinvest the money currently overinvested in police. The result is an alternative city budget, The People’s Vision.
Our 10 Demands
The Coalition organizes around 10 key demands, developed through conversations with our member groups. The demands outline, piece by piece, how we want to defund the police and what we want to create in its place.
A 400-year Struggle Against Policing in Montreal
The Coalition contributed a chapter to the 2022 book, Defund, Disarm, Disband: Police Abolition in Canada. The chapter traces the history of policing in Montreal, from military agents and slave catchers in the 18th century to the militarized and community police force of today. We also describe the history of resistance to policing and the work of the Coalition today.
